Denver, Colorado’s own Nick Cocozzella of Kill Paradise is telling all about how the music of Kill Paradise has grown, new expieriences and hopes for Kill Paradise.

Describe what Kill Paradise is all about in one sentence’s

Cocozzella: It’s like eating an orange colored apple and then feeling that you may have just found your new favorite flavor!

How were the shows on the EZ bronz tour?

Cocozzella: They were Perfect! Everyone that came to the shows came to have a great time. All the bands on the tour were great. It was good to finally tour with our best friends that we grew up with in Breathe Carolina!

Was there any particular favorite show on the tour?

Cocozzella: Hmm… well they were all great!! It’s so hard to pick a favorite, it’s like picking your favorite child. However, I was really surprised with how crazy the fans were Houston TX. Also the day are CD came out we played Grand Rapids Michigan, that was nuts. There were a lot of people and everyone went crazy. I’ll never forget that!

Say you had the chance to collaborate with any artist, who would it
be and why?

Cocozzella: Oh wow, that’s another hard question. I would love to work with so many artists. Right now I think working with Kenny from The Starting Line would be very cool. He is such a great songwriter and having his perspective mashed with mine on a song would be very interesting!

What is your favorite song to perform live personally?

Cocozzella: I really enjoy playing Radio Arcade. That song has so much going on musically, it is really fun to play. Also I get to rap during, so that is fun!

What song do you think the crowds at shows reacts to with the most
energy?

Cocozzella: Definitely RCNK Remix. It has a lot of emotion and energy behind the music and the lyrics. I think the audience feels that when we play it. Sometimes I get so into that song, I go into the crowd to sing with them!

How do you feel your music has changed/grown from Pictures to The
Effect. Then to The Second Effect?

Cocozzella: When I released Pictures I was just kind of just experimenting with recording arts. I had no idea how to independently record or produce. I knew how to compose and write songs, but no clue how to engineer them. “The Effect” was my hardest attempt to write, record, master and produce all by myself. Then, to independently release it. All of it was a great learning experience!

What was the your goal/idea when creating “The Second Effect”?

Cocozzella: To put together a great CD! It has songs from “The Effect” and 6 new songs. It was my first label release so I wanted it to be packed with great music!

10) For Bamboozle Left, what can be expected for your set? Will there be older or new songs performed?

Cocozzella: Just a great time! You will smile I promise! I will be playing pretty much every song off of “The Second Effect”

Has there been any crazy/ first time experiences that have happened
on tour? If so, what experiences has there been?

Cocozzella: Tour is a great time. There have been so many crazy times. On the “Crunk Kids” tour, we went to Canada and that was really neat! I had never been there before so it was great to see something different. The kids there are incredible and just love to have good time!! In some places in Canada they speak French! That was really neat to see.

Is there a message you want to get across through the music you create?

Cocozzella: Well… the whole point of Kill Paradise is to kill the idea of
perfection, and to just be you. I see so many kids these days trying so
hard to be perfect, which is impassable. We are not your ordinary pop
group and don’t mind acting like dorks on stage! We just hope we can put a smile on your face when you listen to us!

If you weren’t involved in music, what do you think you would be
doing?

Cocozzella: I graduated from college with a degree in video production and art, so maybe something along those lines. However, I could not imagine a life where I was not doing something musical.

How is the Colorado music scene pertaining to your music project?

Cocozzella: The local music scene here is incredible. It’s really neat because in Colorado it seem like every musician knows each other. It’s bizarre but really cool! The fans here are so devoted. It’s really humbling.

How does it feel to perform with one of your closest friends Bryce
during your set?

Cocozzella: It adds so much! The energy is completely different
from when it was just me. He really completes Kill Paradise! I’m blessed
to have him apart of this!

Is there anything else you would like to say that hasn’t been stated
already?

Cocozzella: Well to my fans, thank you so much for your support and kindness over theyears. You are all truly a pleasure to have in my life! I’m so glad you like my music as much as I do! Thanks!!!

Some tips in a row.

‘The Intenders of the Highest Good’ is a great ‘organization’ who have brought intentions to an art form. On their site you can (among other things) subscribe to 44 empowering email’s, who are all fantastic. There are Intenders Circles around half of the world now and Tony Burroughs gives lectures whereof at least one is on youtube. (I’ll place the videos at the bottom of this article )   Today Eva Gregory does a free telecall ‘Your Personal Cosmic Connection to Source’. You can subscribe here, also for the replay. Eva is a wonderful woman, a great example and a beautiful channel. Together with Jeanna Gabellini she does lots of courses and teleclasses. Intergral Enlightenment started a series too. ‘Awakening the Impulse to Evolve’. I found their first series very enlightening. Name: Reverend Steven Newlin

Since you seem to keep busy being a religious zealot, what brought you to Twitter to spend your spare time?:

First off, I am not a “zealot” in the negative connotation you spit from your sinful mouth and God knows where that mouth has been… If I am a Zealot, it would be in the traditional meaning based in Biblical history. A Zealot was a member of a fanatical sect arising in Judea during the first century and militantly opposed the Roman domination of Palestine. Much the same as I militantly oppose the liberal based, vampire loving, hedonistic movement that is threatening the foundations of righteousness and the survival of Humanity!

As for Twitter, my estranged wife @SarahNewlin told me about it. I can only assume she heard about it from some of the young male recruits at LODI, pillow-talk not doubt. Anyway, I looked into it and it appeared to be a way to spread God’s Word through a social networking venue. I monitored, or is the term “lurked”, on Twitter for a short while. I found it to be a cyber version of Sodom and Gomorrah. The foul language, sexual innuendos and copious numbers of Nocturnal Parasites “tweeting” through the night begged for the healing words of Jesus.

My mouth, Rev? Excuse me? I am a Belle, a lady, not some fangbanger! Speaking of which, I heard @VampireBill say that @SarahNewlin invited him into your home, can’t say I blame her. AT.ALL. Have you upped your security at the homestead since then?:

You say that you heard @SarahNewlin invited @VampireBill into my home. I can assure you that was a lie! She may have invited every stray “horndog” young man within 100 miles, but not a vampire! In fact, if she had invited a vampire inside do you not think that I would already be dead, drained of every drop of my blood? As you can see I am very much alive.

Vampires can not be trusted; they lie as easily as a politician. They tell you what you want to hear or glamor the weak-minded into submission.

Security doesn’t seem like your strong suit. Neither does henchmen. They seem to be killed while in your employ. Did the authorities ever discover what happened to @RobinHarsh?:

As for my Heads of Security, you are correct I have not had much luck with them. The life expectancy of my Head of Security has been the same as that of a fangbanger! The police have not found any trace of @RobinHarsh, they have ruled him missing presumed dead. He was a creepy guy! Oh sure he had boyish charm but to be honest I think he liked the ladies a bit too much!

I am currently seeking a new Head of Security. If you know of anyone please forward their information to me. We have a great health, dental and vision benefits plan, but unfortunately we can no longer offer life insurance.

You’ve been separated from your wife for a few months now. Any chance of you rekindling your marital flame or perhaps a date with @_Amanda_Jayne?:

Jesus teaches us to turn the other cheek and so I have. I trusted @SarahNewlin a second time and she was in cahoots with those Stackhouse fangbangers and brought vampires into our Fellowship. Many good people were hurt that night. I have run out of cheeks to be slapped, well that is unless I drop my pants! As for @_Amanda_Jayne I have not heard from her much since the night @SarahNewlin brought the vampires to attack us. @_Amanda_Jayne was so brave in the face of those demons, but I think I may have seen the last of her (sigh).

Being a Belle, I probably shouldn’t say this, but you are one of the funniest men on Twitter. Is there anyone who makes you laugh?:

What? I’m funny? What do you mean by that? I am not trying to be funny! I’m fighting a war here to save Humanity from the Nocturnal Parasites! Don’t you understand that these Demons from Hell are destroying our friends and families? Oooooh, nice shoes! What are they Jimmy Choos? *smirk*(I think the Rev has been lurking @smeykunz’s stream)

Do you identify with the character of Steve Newlin at all?:

I do identify with the romantic notion of his quixotic approach to addressing the issues he believes in.  However, I by no means see things as purely good or purely evil as he sees them.

Why did you really come to Twitter? It couldn’t have been to kill Vampires.:

Well, you want to know about “the man behind the Newlin mask”, he is a husband that works all day and just wants dinner. My wife was on Twitter as @SarahNewlin in June, spending all her time tweeting or lurking the TB RPers. So, in an effort to spend time with my wife… @SteveNewlinJr was born. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Still no dinner though, I’m very hungry….

Interview with Chaddster

Not the greatest, but I can decent clothing.

Exclusive Interview - Iain O'Brien

Life throws many a challenge at all of us in everyday life and Iain O’Brien (OB), the now retired New Zealand international cricketer it was no different.

I caught up with Iain (pictured below) on Friday, to discuss life, moving to England, twitter, English weather and even cricket!!

GSB: Hi Iain, nice to speak with you. How are you today?

OB: Yeah I’m good thanks Derek.

GSB: How you finding the conditions in England at this time of the year?

OB: Well it’s my first winter in seven years so I’m enjoying it but it will start to wear thin soon.

GSB: If I could start by asking you for your all-time favourite cricketer?

OB: Glenn McGrath, for the obvious reasons.

GSB: Your favourite cricket ground then?

OB: My former home ground, the Basin Reserve (pictured below), Wellington.

GSB: And the best player you have played against?

OB: It is pretty difficult to go past Sachin Tendulkar. Especially when you can see his love for the game.

GSB: How did it feel to play test match cricket?

OB: Well, it’s the reason you play and it’s the dream but then it gets better when you make a job out of playing cricket. Then to fulfill the dream and make your ambition is what it is all about.

GSB: So do you see a future for test match cricket?

OB: Well for anyone who has watched test matches over the past two months, will see that it is as strong as ever. There have been phenomenal draws and wins, it’s the most interesting period of test cricket I’ve seen in my life-time.

GSB: Despite some high-profile retirements recently, namely Shane Bond, Andrew Flintoff and yourself?

OB: Thanks for including me with those two great names. That won’t affect it, as they retired due to injuries and I had my reasons too. If you can’t handle test cricket then you can’t play and we’ll still see them in the shorter versions of the game.

GSB: So what was your international high point?

OB: It has to be when I took 6/75 versus West Indies at Napier as it was my only 5 wicket haul in test cricket and everything happened for me in that innings.

GSB: And the lowest point?

OB: Been a few to be honest. But, probably in South Africa, in my first match back after being dropped from the squad. I was useless and it made me think long and hard after the second days play.

I wondered if this form would continue forever, but the next day I returned to form. Those demons are hard to deal with and it was a very tough moment for me.

GSB: Your first test victim was Matthew Hayden (pictured below), how did that feel?

OB: Pretty cool and I hate that word. Amazingly it happened in my 4th over in test cricket and it went to Nathan Astle at second slip, who took a good catch.

That gave me figures of 1/13 and having my parents and close friends in the crowd was very special. Though my figures for the rest of the match didn’t stay to that level.

GSB: You gained a reputation as a ‘go-to’ bowler for the New Zealand team, how did you find that?

OB: Yeah I am proud of that. When your not an out-and-out wicket taker you have to dry up an end and make life uncomfortable for the batsmen.

Bowling along side Daniel Vettori, who was the captain, he had confidence in me and my ability to adapt my role and do as required. I loved it in other words.

GSB: Have you learned to control the dissent?

OB: I don’t know where this has come from. I had one incident last summer, where I got caught behind after the ball had nicked my wicket but the bails hadn’t come off and was given out.

I was confused and not sure what had happened and I had a couple of cross messages but that was it. So I have to say I have only had a slap on the wrist really.

GSB: So international retirement, any regrets?

OB: No not at all. I’m very proud of my decision and it was about a life balance outside of cricket and time with my wife (Rosie is English and lives in Derbyshire, England).

It is sad in some ways, but I have no regrets and I am ready for the next phase of my life.

GSB: Not even when you watch live matches?

OB: I enjoy watching cricket, like the current South Africa versus England series but New Zealand haven’t played a test match since I retired.

I guess when they do, part of me will feel like I would when I’m injured or when I’ve been dropped but I will be supporting the guys. 

GSB: Missing New Zealand then?

OB: I have only been over here a week, so it’s alright at the moment, but, I do miss home and the folks. It will eat at me slightly, but it’s my decision and I stick by it.

GSB: So you’ve signed for Middlesex, happy with the move? Shame you didn’t move to my team, Yorkshire!

OB: Yorkshire enquired but I had already signed for Middlesex. Yeah I am happy with it. I still want to play and it is my job. Be nice to only be playing 3 hours from home too.

It’s a change of lifestyle and we’ve made some great signings. I’m looking forward to getting started as everything seems very professionally done and looks like exciting times ahead.

GSB: Looking forward to playing at the ‘home of cricket’ (Lord’s pictured below) regularly?

OB: Well I’ve been there as 12th man a couple of times, but only played once in a twenty20 match. It’s not the worst place in the world to play is it?

It wasn’t part of my decision, but it’s a nice ground and I wasn’t overly excited about it to begin with. But, people keep mentioning it and with everyday that passes and the closer I get to playing there, then the more exciting and edgy I get for it.

GSB: Angus Fraser had some very kind words to say about you when they signed you. Has that added any pressure?

OB: No not at all. It was a positive press release and I feel he has made a good signing. He was a similar bowler to me in his day and I’m hoping I can impact my attitude on the other bowlers in the squad.

GSB: So with your recent international retirement, do you fancy a stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL)?

OB: If it came along it’d be great but it would also be a tough decision at this time. I’m here to live my life but agreeing to go to India for 6 weeks would be the opposite to my agreed decisions.

GSB: What would you have done if you hadn’t become a cricketer?

OB: Well I have a background in teaching Physical Education and have taught in earlier stints over here. I did some supply work too. So I would probably go back into that.

GSB: So do you see  a career in writing when you retire from cricket?

OB: Well I didn’t start my blog as an angle to get into it, even though it maybe received that way. It would be silly not to continue it and if it opens doors and opportunities continue to open up and I do a few things then so be it.

I want to go into coaching and specifically as a bowling coach, I enjoy spending my time with the other bowlers and feel I can help them mentally too.

GSB: So moving to this country and with New Zealand’s qualification for the football World Cup. Are you a football fan?

OB: Well I was at the match when we qualified for the World Cup finals. It was the most amazing sporting event I have ever been too and I was proud to have been there.

I am looking forward to the tournament and I have brought my whitecaps scarf with me, but, I must admit I am not a big football fan and I haven’t got a team as such and will have to take an interest now I am here.

GSB: Finally how have you embraced the twitter phenomenon?

OB: Well it is there for a reason and it is useful for people like me and you. It helps get our blogs read and it gives people the chance to talk to people in the limelight like me.

I respond to people’s questions and I am grateful to respond to them. It is another avenue for the media and will obviously become more prominent.

TAMEKA FOSTER & JAMIE FOXX hit FEBRUARY's issue of UPSCALE MAGAZINE

 

Both JAMIE FOXX and TAMEKA FOSTER appear in next months issue of UPSCALE MAGAZINE for their “Love and Romance” issue…. Not sure if my first choice would be TAMEKA with love and relationships not being her strong point at the moment! On a good note, however, she looks absolutely amazing and JAMIE FOXX tells what he likes in a woman and what turns him on!
